D T Poole hosts The Bourbon Hunters podcast, a weekly long-form conversation with recurring guests Brett Bryan and JD Fritzges. Guests include friends, bartenders, distillers, bar and restaurant owners, along with other various bourbon enthusiasts. Discussions revolve around topical events and stories about daily life while tasting and sharing their thoughts on various bourbons.
About the Author
D.T. Poole is the author of the Bourbon Barons series, a multi-volume narrative history of American bourbon stripped of the mythology and told straight.
He started researching bourbon history in 2019, after a tour guide at Buffalo Trace made a passing comment about E.H. Taylor Jr. being something of a swindler when it came to selling his bourbon. He could not stop thinking about it on the drive home. What followed was years of reading, note-taking, and discovering that the real stories behind the men who built American bourbon were more interesting than the promotional versions — consistently, without exception.
His father used to tell him he should write a book. After his father passed away, he went through his notes and decided to try. He wrote the Bourbon Barons series in the background of a full life — working a regular job, owning and coaching at a fitness gym, and hosting the Bourbon Hunters Podcast — a few hundred words at a time, across more early mornings and late evenings than he can accurately account for.
He is a certified Executive Bourbon Steward and has been hosting the Bourbon Hunters Podcast since 2019.
